BULAWAYO City Council cashiers at swimming pools cycle to banks loaded with cash as there are no vehicles to transport them to banks.
According to a council report, Councillor Sithabile Mataka-Moyo expressed concern saying workers are being exposed to danger.
The report said at Bulawayo Pool last year, 3 101 bathers where recoded whilst the revenue collected was US$2 970.57.
As for North End 683 bathers and revenue $676.02 was collected and for Barham Green 481 bathers collecting revenue of $376.72.
"Discussion ensued and Councillor S. Mataka-Moyo was concerned about staff at swimming pools who had to cycle to the bank with cash.
"She questioned the safety of municipal funds as such staff members were exposed to robbery?" reads part of the report.
"In response the Director of Housing and Community Services (Isaiah Magagula) confirmed this arrangement. He advised that previously banking trucks used to ferry cash from Housing and Community Services Department cash installations.
"It was expensive to use a banking truck to collect small amounts. Currently there was no system in place for collections. He also explained that Bursars had to use public transport for banking purposes. However this issue would be examined and appropriate action taken,"
