A BULAWAYO man who attempted to bribe police officers who had arrested his relative by an $80 and 100 rands has been dragged to court charged with bribery.
Gerald Chiwara (25) pleaded guilty to handing the money to the police officers but denied bribing them saying he was just sent by someone to give them the money when he appeared before Bulawayo magistrate Tawanda Muchemwa.
The prosecutor Munyonga Kuvarega told the court that on March 12, 2015 at 6pm police officers from Bulawayo Central Crime Prevention Unity were deployed to arrest wanted persons in the western areas. They arrested Charles Muza for possessing Bron Cleer syrup. While they were parked at corner Luveve Road and Nketa Drive Chiwara approached them and gave a constable Manzwangani $80 and R100 and told them to take the money and release Muza who was arrested. The police officers arrested him and took the money as exhibits.
