A man from Iminyela in Bulawayo is in trouble after he allegedly duped a South world resident into believing that he was a Zimbabwe Electricity Supply Authority official and installed a pre- paid electricity meter and collected $1690 from him.

Lewis Moyo (34) was not asked to plead to a charge of abstracting or diverting any electricity currency or casing an electricity to be abstracted when he appeared before Marilyn Mutshina.

The magistrate granted him $100 bail and remanded him to May 7 for trial.

The court heard that sometime this year Moyo went to house number 45 Over bury Road South world where Henry Madziva and Precious Hazvineyi Mhondoro were tenants. He allegedly misrepresented to them that he was a Zesa official wanting to install pre-paid meters. He there after installed a dysfunctional pre-paid meter after by passing the electricity. He remained with the card and promised to juice electricity from the office.

Through this, people who were residing at the house were using electricity paying to Moyo who did not remit anything to Zesa.

By this means 13500 units of electricity were consumed prejudicing Zesa of cash amounting to $1690 which was not recorded. He was later arrested.
