A FORM Four pupil at Emakhandeni High School in Bulawayo stabbed his girlfriend's uncle with a knife leaving him severely wounded after he warned him against sleeping with his niece, a Plumtree magistrate heard yesterday.
Proud Moyo, 19, allegedly attacked Bongani Maphosa, 30, and stabbed him in the back and head while they were in Figtree area in Bulilima district.
Moyo appeared on initial remand before Plumtree magistrate Gideon Ruvetsa facing attempted murder charges.
He was remanded in custody to May 6.
The court heard how Moyo flew into a rage after Maphosa prohibited him from sleeping with his niece after he caught them together.
Prosecuting, Jane Phiri said Maphosa proceeded to Hannayvale Business Centre on May 18 where he bought beer in the company of his niece.
The court heard that at around 11PM Maphosa left his niece alone. Phiri said Moyo took advantage and asked her to sleep with him.
"Moyo then approached his friend who was also drinking beer at the same beerhall and asked him for condoms. The three of them left for the friend's homestead which is close to the business centre to collect condoms while Maphosa was still away.
"Moyo and his lover agreed that they would sleep together at his friend's homestead after collecting the condoms," said Phiri.
Phiri told the court that upon his return, Maphosa found his niece gone.
"Phiri said upon making inquiries with other patrons at the bar, Maphosa learnt that his niece had left with Moyo and his friend.
Phiri said the complainant then followed the trio and he found his niece half-undressed in a bedroom hut with Moyo.
"A misunderstanding arose as the complainant demanded to know what the accused person was doing in bed with his niece. Moyo rudely explained that he wanted to sleep with her as she was his girlfriend.
"The two men wrestled one another until they were out of the hut," said Phiri.
She said Moyo then pulled out a knife from his pocket and stabbed Maphosa's uncle in the back close to the ribs and back of his head.
He immediately fled the scene.
Phiri said Moyo went into hiding but was arrested on the following day while at a homestead in the same area.
She said Maphosa is admitted at the United Bulawayo Hospitals where his condition is said to be critical.
