THERE was drama yesterday at Bulawayo Civil Court when a Canada-based man was arrested just before his wedding for alleged fraud.
According to Southern Eye, Ralph Wiri Gondo (24) of Emganwini, who was smartly dressed for his memorable occasion was nabbed while waiting for the arrival of the bride Loviner Dube (23) outside the courts.
Gondo was outside Tredgold Building preparing for the pre wedding-counselling when police pounced.
Unbeknown to him, one of his former workmates at a local confectionery company was laying in ambush for him in the company of police officers at the courts.
The former workmate, whose name could not be immediately verified, wanted Gondo arrested after he allegedly absconded to Canada without settling a bank loan where he was a guarantor.
After Gondo reportedly left for Canada, the bank pounced on the workmate to recover the money.
The drama caught onlookers by surprise as Gondo was dragged to the police charge office at Tredgold.
Dube found her fiancée in police custody and had to attend the pre-wedding counselling alone.
A police source said Gondo latter agreed with the complainant that he be released after the sister volunteered to pay back the money on his behalf.
The wedding reportedly went ahead after Gondo's release and it was solemnised by a Bulawayo magistrate.
Bulawayo police spokesperson Mandlenkosi Moyo could not be reached for comment on Gondo's arrest.
