The 56th edition of the Zimbabwe International Trade Fair (ZITF) has been officially opened by Zambian President Mr Edgar Lungu.
In his key note address, President Lungu hailed the existing friendship between Zimbabwe and Zambia which was started by the two countries fore fathers, adding that the two neighbours share the mighty wonder of the world, the Victoria Falls, which some countries sometimes want to claim as theirs.
President Lungu noted that Zimbabwe and Zambia have embarked on various joint venture projects including the maintenance of the Kariba Hydro Power Station, the launch of the Chirundu One Stop Border Post and co-hosting of United Nations World Tourism Organisation General Assembly in 2013 in the resort town of Victoria Falls.
He said the theme of the 56th edition of ZITF is befitting and timely as it encourages accelerating economic growth in the SADC region, adding that it dovetails with the just ended SADC extra-ordinary summit of heads of state and government which approved the region's industrialisation roadmap.
"We need to accelerate economic growth through value addition of our natural resources," said President Lungu.
Mr Lungu highlighted that he looks forward to Zambia increasing its participation at the ZITF.
He also said the government of Zambia is committed to increasing trade with Zimbabwe in line with this year's theme: ‘Stimulating growth'.
