A man from Waterford in Bulawayo who attacked his girlfriend while drunk and later also assaulted her father when they demanded the hand beg he had snatched from her has been dragged to court to answer charges of assault.

Percy Chigora (28) who is a boyfriend of Sehlule Ncube (35) pleaded not guilty to the charge when he appeared before Bulawayo magistrate Marilyn Muchina.

The magistrate remanded him out of custody to a further date.

The prosecutor Dumisani Ndlovu told the court that on April 30 this year at 8pm Sehlule was at Waterford Shopping Centre when Chigora met her and asked her to accompany him to his home through the John Anthony Road but she refused and instead took another route. Chigora allegedly followed her and snatched her handbag and after she noticed that he was drunk and violent Sehlule ran away leaving her bag.  She went to number 5 Elizabeth Road in Water Ford where she phoned her father Samuel Ncube (69) telling him about the incident.

It is alleged that Samuel went to her daughter and together they went to Chigora's place to demand the return of her handbag.  But on arrival Chigora refused to give them the bag and he assaulted Sehlule twice on the face using open hands and also beat up her father with open hands at the same time throwing out her bag.

The two came out of the house running for their dear lives leaving the bag behind.

They reported the matter to Hillside police station leading to Chigora's arrest.
