Debtors must pay RBZ- MDC-T

MDC-T Bulawayo executive have challenged the Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe (RBZ) debtors to be responsible for their debts to the national bank and urged them to pay rather that to take advantage of the innocent tax payers.

Deputy Provincial spokesperson Felix Magalela Mafa said the devoid RBZ debt assumption which endorses the payment of the RBZ debts by the government instead of individual debtors was an infringement of the citizens' rights.

"Bulawayo province of the MDC-T is in support demanding the disclosure of the full list of RBZ debtors withoutr reservations or being apologetic," said Mafa Sibanda.

"According to the Zimbabwe's constitution, citizens have the right to information as well as un impeded access to state information which is not threat to security.

In this case there is no iota of security threat to say the least. How can the poverty stricken Zimbabweans pay the colossal debt while the debtors are alive? The defaulting citizens should pay their debts graciously without favour or fear. $1,3 billion is whooping debt by any economic standards in the world."

Mafa Sibanda said why should this issue not being put to a referendum so as the majority to decide?

"In conclusion, we are demanding sanity to prevail in order to motivate would be domestic or international investors. We hope and pray that the president Robert Mugabe will not assent his bold and authoritative signature to this ill conceived bill thereof," he said.

Zanu PF MPs recent voted to the RBZ assumption Bill which is yet to be signed into law by Mugabe.
