A FIVE-member gang allegedly broke into 14 shops at Nkulumane Shopping Complex in Bulawayo and stole property worth $9,600 after using an iron bar to break open doors to gain entry.
Two of the accused, Dominic Tichavanga, 44, and Kenneth Nyamhotsi, 36, yesterday appeared before Western Commonage magistrate Sibongile Msipa - Marondedze charged with four counts of unlawful entry and theft.
A third suspect Kidion Ngazimbihwo who has since been arrested, is yet to appear in court while two others are on the run.
The gang sold some of the stolen property to people in different suburbs and kept some at a house in Makokoba suburb.
Nkulumane police last Friday recovered some of the property.
Tichavanga and Nyamhotsi yesterday applied for bail and magistrate Msipa-Marondedze remanded them in custody to today for bail ruling.
The investigating officer in the matter Assistant Inspector Herbert Kanyinji opposed bail.
He said Tichavanga and Nyamhotsi were a flight risk.
Prosecuting, Mufaro Mageza said on May 21 at around 2AM, the gang went to Fairtown Investments Foundation trading as Magamba Complex in Nkulumane and jumped the precast wall securing the area.
"While inside, they went on to open a locked shop door using a metal bar to gain entry," said Mageza.
The gang then allegedly stole a Samsung D600 and Vinko Z10 mobile phones.
Mageza told the court that while in the same complex, they proceeded to Albert Mkwandi's shop where they forced open the door and stole a Nokia Lumia 2820 and Gtel A 70Z mobile.
They used the same modus operandi to break into several shops and stole an assortment of goods.
