Sand poachers target city graves

Bulawayo City Council officials have expressed concerns that sand poachers who are terrorising the city's secluded areas are now targeting the Hyde park area close to the cemetery a development that prompt fears that some graves can be affected by the poachers.

According to council minutes for May poaching of Pit Sand is reportedly escalating at the Hyde Park area and this subsequent risk of exposure of Graves.

A Councillor T. Ncube speaking during full council meeting said he was concerned about the reported poaching of pit sand from the Hyde Park Cemetery.

He said that such behaviour was anti-social and abominable. He urged relevant departments to closely monitor developments at the cemetery.

The council then resolved that the recommendation of the Health, Housing and Education Committee be adopted and efforts be made to protect the grave site from being affected by the poachers.
