An employee with the Greens Supermarket in Bulawayo who arrested a customer who stole Everyday milk packets and allegedly tortured her by beating and pouring clod water on her before locking her up in a room for several hours has been dragged to court charged with assault and theft.
Madzipa Sarudzai (40) was pleading not guilty to the charges when she appeared before Bulawayo magistrate Merilyn Mutshina.
The matter was remanded to June 6 for trial.
The prosecutor Kudakwashe Jaravaza told the court that on May 5 this year at 6pm Abigail Ndlovu (26) of Pumula North in Bulawayo went to Greens Supermarket in Bulawayo city centre where she stole four packets of Everyday milk and she went out with them. Sarudzai noticed that she had stolen something and informed some workmates. Ndlovu was arrested and taken to a warehouse where Sarudzai allegedly assaulted her with fists and kicked her with booted feet all over the body several times.
She then poured on her cold water while she was holding her mobile phone damaging the phone in the process. Sarudzai allegedly took Ndlovu's hand bag and stole $70 and R6 before further locking Ndlovu up until she released her at 10pm.
Ndlovu later made a report to the police leading to Saridzai's arrest.
