A JEALOUS Bulawayo man attacked his girlfriend with an electric cable, accusing her of two-timing.
Darlington Ndlovu, 19, assaulted Viola Dube, 18, at the Cowdray Park Flyover as a crowd watched, a court heard yesterday.
Dube was hospitalised after the brutal attack in which she sustained a swollen knee and bruises all over her body.
Ndlovu pleaded guilty to an assault charge when he appeared before Western Commonage magistrate Sibongile Msipa-Marondedze.
He was sentenced to 30 days imprisonment or a fine of $100.
"You're a first offender who pleaded guilty to the charge laid against you and didn't waste the court's time, pay a fine of $100 or in default, 30 days imprisonment. Pay the fine through the clerk of court at Western Commonage by June 30, 2015," said Msipa-Marondedze.
Prosecuting, Mufaro Mageza said on May 16 at around 3PM, Ndlovu and Dube were at a flyover in Cowdray Park suburb.
The court heard that the two had a misunderstanding with Ndlovu accusing Dube of being in other relationships while they were still in love.
"Ndlovu then produced an electric cable that he used to assault Dube," said Mageza.
He told the court that Ndlovu assaulted Dube all over the body and she sustained bruises.
Dube, who was trying to escape, the court heard, slipped and fell on her right knee.
She sustained a swollen knee and was taken to Mpilo Central Hospital.
