IN a fit of rage, a 36-year-old two timing man from Waterford suburb in Bulawayo brutally bashed his 29-year-old wife for busting his roadside romance with his girlfriend.

He was convicted on his own plea of guilty to physical abuse as defined in section 4 as read with section 3 (1) (a) of the Domestic Violence Act Chapter 5:16.

The State case as presented by prosecutor Mr Admire Chikwayi was that Moyo had a brush with the law when he savagely assaulted his wife, Norah Gumbo after catching him red- handed in the company of his girlfriend.

According to State papers on 11 August, the complainant accompanied the accused person's younger brother to a bus stop.

The court heard that when she was on her way back, the complainant could not believe her "eyes when she found her husband acting lovey-dovey with his girlfriend at the roadside.

Gumbo, the court heard that in a bid to bust off the roadside romance decided to wait for them.

When the accused person and his girlfriend arrived, she later asked her husband the name of the woman who was with him.

The court further heard that Moyo was evasive and at loss for words as he failed to explain to the complainant until the girlfriend in a bid to humiliate the complainant bragged to her that she was his girlfriend.

Gumbo, in an attempt to get to the bottom of the matter asked the accused person to authenticate the statements.

Moyo, seeing that his philandering moves had been unmasked became violent and began to assault his wife with open hands.

After the roadside bashing, the couple in the company of the accused's girlfriend went to their place of residence and when they arrived there, the accused person took a stick and began assaulting the complainant on the back.

During the bashing the accused said, he was teaching her a lesson.

Seeing that the physical counseling by her boyfriend on her rival was nearly turning fatal, the woman at the centre of controversy tried to stop him but she failed.

The complainant managed to escape and ran to the main house where she was later rescued by their landlord.

She later reported the matter to the police leading to the arrest of the accused person.

Moyo at the end of the day heaved a huge sigh of relief when he was spared the agony of jail life and was asked to pay US$100 and default in payment would be sent to jail for 20 days.
