Poor showing by one Zimbabwean referee and his linesman was evident at Rufaro today when they conspired to deny Highlanders a genuine goal.

Controversial referee Norman Matemera who at some point failed his fitness test at the National University of Science and Technology conspired with one of his assistants to deny Highlanders a genuine goal against Dynamos at Rufaro. Matemera was assisted by Bongani Gadzikwa and Chenjerai Chihumbiri as the second assistant.

In 2003, the same Matemere robbed Highlanders of victory in Harare when he extended the three minutes injury time by another three minutes. Highlanders filed a complaint with the PSL against referee Matemera.

In 2003, the match ended after three more minutes on top of the indicated three-minute added time allowing Partson Jaure to salvage a draw for Dynamos by cancelling Njabulo Ncube's 52nd lead for Bosso.

With Matemera justifying the added time as compensation for stoppages when Highlanders players feigned injuries during injury time, the Bulawayo giants interpreted it as a deliberate plot to afford Dynamos the equaliser.

It is alleged after the controversial referee's showing in 2013, Gumede went straight to Matemera and said "I will fix you, you will never officiate again, uzonya".

The Zimbabwe Referees Association came out in full support of Matemera's controversial decision. The Highlanders chairman Peter Dube at that time said they are not resting until the match's circumstances are formally reviewed.

One Zimbabwean referee was expelled from 2015 Cosafa Senior Challenge, Ruzive Ruzive. Ruzive is not alone in his incompetence, check the video below for evidence.

Ruzive's expulsion was not surprising considering the fact that there have been a lot of complaints not only on the former Zimbabwe Referee of the Year, but also on the standards of Zimbabwean football officiating in general.

Ruzive has been in the eye of a storm on numerous occasions and at one time, Bulawayo giants Highlanders protested against him handling their matches saying that he was not only biased, but incompetent.

Some are even questioning why in the first place Cosafa would consider having Zimbabwe referees at their tournament when the standards of football officiating in this country have gone down to the extent that not even a single Zimbabwean referee has been chosen for the Africa Cup of Nations finals.
