INSPECTOR Precious Simango is the new police spokesperson for Bulawayo Metropolitan Province following the recent promotion and redeployment of her predecessor, Superintendent Mandlenkosi Moyo.

Supt Moyo, who had been the police spokesperson for Bulawayo since August, 2007, has been deployed to the Provincial Training Wing in the city.

The former police spokesperson said he was happy to leave the office to Insp Simango, an experienced media relations officer who once deputised him.

"Insp Simango has vast experience in the police public relations department. She used to be my deputy before her promotion moved her elsewhere. She has bounced back," said Supt Moyo.

An elated Insp Simango said she was ready to assume her new role.

She appealed for support and cooperation from journalists and other key stakeholders.

I'm happy and ready for the new challenge, expect to receive cooperation from the media fraternity and other various stakeholders in the fight against crime," said Insp Simango.

She said she has held several posts in the police force and the press relations duties were not new to her. "I used to work in this office deputising Insp (Supt) Moyo but I moved to Victoria Falls after my promotion where I worked as Officer-in-Charge of Administration. I was reposted to Bulawayo where I worked as officer-in-charge of operations before rejoining the public relations department," said Insp Simango.

She urged Bulawayo residents to maintain their culture of working closely with the police in fighting crime as it was difficult for them to fight crime without the help of members of the public.

"Members of the public can report crime cases on our hotline number 09-885479, toll free 110 or 999. We also now have Whatsapp numbers, 0776097122 and 0717922398," said Insp Simango.
