Tenant 'rapes' landlord's daughter

A BULAWAYO tenant covered the face of his landlord's daughter with a blanket before raping her once, a court heard yesterday.

Western Commonage magistrate Sibongile Msipa-Marondedze heard this when Enock Pafamurombo, 34, appeared before her facing a rape charge. Pafamurombo of Nkulumane suburb was not asked to plead and was remanded in custody to September 3.

Msipa-Marondedze advised him to apply to the High Court for bail.

Prosecuting, Margaret Muhomba said sometime in July this year at around 1PM, the girl was home alone and had just taken a bath.

She said the juvenile, who is a Form One pupil at a city high school, had a towel wrapped around her body.

"She proceeded to her room, which also doubles as a kitchen, and removed the body towel before putting her clothes on," Muhomba said.

Pafamurombo allegedly entered the room and the juvenile quickly picked up the body towel and ran to her father's bedroom and locked the door.

Later on the same day at around 9PM, the court heard, the juvenile retired to bed and Pafamurombo entered the kitchen and raised the volume of the radio.

Muhomba said Pafamurombo threatened the juvenile with death if she dared make any noise.

"He took a blanket and covered the girl's face. He pinned the girl in between his legs, removed her clothing and raped her once without any protection," Muhomba said.

She said the offence came to light when the girl's mother discovered some changes in the manner her daughter was walking.

The mother reported the matter to the police leading to Pafamurombo's arrest.
