A MAN from Lupane landed himself in hot soup when he stole three goats in order to appease and pay bride price for his second wife.

Everything turned sour as his in-laws were arrested after the stolen goats were identified in their herd.

The in-laws to Elliot Ndlovu (32) then revealed to the police that their son-law gave them the goats that they were being accused of stealing as bride price for their daughter.

Ndlovu was then arrested for stock theft.

It is reported that Ndlovu went to Mxolisi Sibanda's homestead and stole two goats.

As he knew the motive behind his idea, upon realising that with only two goats, his in-laws would not agree to give him their daughter he then stole another goat on his way home.

On the following day, the accused who wanted to complete his master plan proceeded to Thokozani village to pay bride price for his second wife with the stolen goats.

the complainants are reported to have noticed their goats and when they approached the family to enquire on how their missing goats got into their head they were surprised to hear that it was given to the family as part of bride price.

A report was then made to police leading to the arrest of Ndlovu who pleaded guilty to both counts.

The accused appeared before Tsholotsho resident magistrate Mr Toindepi Zhou who sentenced him to 24 months in prison on which six months were suspended on condition that he does not commit a similar offence in a period of five years.

Prosecutor Fritz Madida led for the state.
