A BULAWAYO woman is lucky to be alive after she was beaten by her husband in a dispute over food.
Xolani Dube (34), appeared before Mr Batanai Tuhwe and was charged for physical abuse as defined in Section3 (1) (a) as read with Section 4 of the Domestic Violence Act Chapter 5:16. Dube is married to Nomagugu Dube and they own Slice Pizzeria, a popular fast food outlet, at the corner of 12th Avenue and Fife Street.
Prosecuting, Mr Raymond Makhaza said on 17 August 2015 Mrs Dube arrived at the shop from Botswana where she had travelled on business.
It is alleged that she then requested her husband to bring her some food since she was tired.
"After some time, Mr Dube showed up with no food and there was a dispute and the two exchanged harsh words as the husband failed to explain his whereabouts and the missing food order," said Mr Makhaza.
It is alleged that Mr Dube then became furious and attacked his wife, accusing her of being disrespectful to him. It is the State's case that he beat her up with clenched fists on her head and face thereby injuring her on the left eye.
Mr Dube left his wife lying on the couch in his office with a wounded eye. She then sought help and the workers came to rescue her.
Mr Makhaza said Dube's wife was admitted to hospital and later discharged, leading to the arrest of her husband.
When asked by the magistrate as to why he assaulted his wife, Mr Dube indicated that he was furious.
"The reason why l beat my wife is because l lost my temper because I was tired since I had worked all day," said Mr Dube.
However, Mr Dube was lucky to escape jail time as he was sentenced to 12 months imprisonment, which was wholly suspended on condition of good behaviour.
In a related case, a Bulawayo woman was arrested for assaulting her tenant several times with her hands in the face and pushing her down a flight of stairs.
The landlady, Sikhathazile Sibanda, allegedly assaulted her tenant Sabina Musembu, at their home in Westgate.
Sibanda appeared before the magistrate Mrs Adelaide Mbeure and was charged for physical abuse.
Prosecuting, Mr Malvin Nzombe said on 10 August 2015 at around 11am, Musembu was removing dry clothes on the washing line and leaving the wet ones when Sibanda approached her.
Upon seeing Sibanda, Musembu asked her why she had previously complained to her young sister about the clothes on the washing line.
"Sibanda became furious stating that she wanted to assault the young sister but instead she was going to turn the tables and assault Musembu the sister since she had wanted to do so for a long time," said Mr Nzombe.
Sibanda insulted Musembu and assaulted her with open hands and fists and pushed her, resulting in her falling on the door step on her back.
Sibanda was remanded out of custody to 8 September.
