Operation 'take-take', 50 nabbed for stolen goods

POLICE in Bulawayo have arrested 50 people since the launch of the ongoing operation code named "take-take" and recovered goods worth thousands of dollars.
The operation which ends today, started last Friday and this was in response to an upsurge in cases of housebreaking and theft as well as robberies.
Chief Superintendent Marshall Dube, the provincial crimes prevention officer is leading the operation.
Bulawayo police spokesperson Inspector Precious Simango said the operation was meant to rid the city of criminals.
"We've noted with concern the increase in the number of robberies, unlawful entry and theft cases where members of the public are losing property. We've arrested 50 suspects between Friday and Saturday," said Insp Simango.
She said goods recovered included 86 cellphones, 105 tyres, four plasma television sets, a phillips video camera, a television, two radios, three speakers, home theatres, solar panels, groceries and stoves.
She said some of the property was recovered from dealers of second-hand goods.
"We believe most of the stolen property is sold to these dealers," she said.
Insp Simango urged members of the public to increase security at their premises.
This, she added, can be done through changing locks when they move into new houses.
Insp Simango called on people who lost their property to visit Drill Hall offices to identify the items.
"Anyone who lost their property should produce the serial numbers of the said property for easy identification," she said.
