Man offers $15 maintenance

A Mutare man (36), John Zuka, who works for Mutare City Council was hauled before the courts last week by his ex-wife, Maudy Madhishi who claimed $100 maintenance for their 10-year-old son said he has a wife and five other kids to take care for so he can only offer $15 as maintenance for his child.
Madhishi told the court that Zuka has not been taking care of the child's welfare since he was six.
"I need money for the upkeep of this child because he has not been doing anything towards his welfare. The little that I am getting from selling sweets and jiggies is no longer enough to pay for the child's school fees, clothes and rentals," said Madhishi.
In response, Zuka told the court that chances were very high that the child was not his since Madhishi severally accused him of being impotent during their happy days.
"Why does she need money from me when she told me way back that I was not a real man? Let her take care of everything that concerns the child since she is the one who is sure whether the child is mine or not.
"I have a wife and five other children to take care of so this one should not be my problem," said Zuka.
He produced only two birth certificates before Mrs Ndiraya and told the court that the other three children had no birth certificates.
He offered to pay only $15.
He produced a pay slip with a net monthly salary of $190 and told the court that he obtained a bank loan from FBC Bank which he was servicing until November 2016.
Madhishi, however, told the court that she only knew that he had three other children, not five and the least she could accept was $70 per month. In her ruling, Mrs Ndiraya ordered Zuka to pay $25 for the minor child with effect from September 30 until he is 18.
