A 33-YEAR-OLD Bulawayo man, who allegedly axed his landlord for interfering in a domestic dispute, has been granted $50 bail. Trymore Murambiwa of Emakhandeni allegedly axed Lloyd Mlambo, 30, after he tried to restrain him (Murambiwa) from beating his wife.

On Tuesday, Western Commonage magistrate Sibongile Msipa-Marondedze granted Murambiwa bail after the State indicated that it was not opposed to it. As part of his bail conditions, Msipa-Marondedze ruled that Murambiwa must not interfere with state witnesses, resides at his given address, and should report to Luveve police station once every Friday till the matter is finalised.

She remanded Murambiwa out of custody to September 23. Prosecutors indicated that Mlambo, who was admitted to Mpilo Central Hospital, has since been discharged.

"The state presumes that the complainant is now out of danger," said the prosecutor Margaret Muhomba.

She said on August 23 at around 1AM, Murambiwa was fighting with his wife Netsai Mupinyi. She said Mlambo got out of his bedroom to investigate after he heard Mupinyi screaming.

"Mlambo found Murambiwa at the door holding an axe and inquired about what was happening," Muhomba said.

The court heard that Murambiwa warned his landlord not to interfere in the domestic dispute.

"He charged towards Mlambo and struck him on the head several times with an axe," Muhomba said.

The court heard that Mlambo collapsed and regained consciousness at Mpilo Central Hospital.

A medical report showed that Mlambo sustained lacerations on the head. The medical report reads: "At the moment the patient is stable but there is possibility of intraeranial bleeds which can manifest and can be fatal."
