ZAPU on Sunday claimed that it had covered nearly 45% of Bulawayo in its membership recruitment drive, but admitted that the exercise has not gone according to plan.
The Dumiso Dabengwa-led party launched the campaign early this month to save its waning fortunes.
The programme was expected to see party officials engaged in a door-to-door exercise to recruit new members, starting with Bulawayo, before the exercise is rolled out across the country.
"It is still on, but the pace has not gone according to our plan. We expected to have covered the whole of Bulawayo by now, but we have not been able to do so because we are also seized with other party programmes," Zapu regional spokesperson Iphithule Maphosa said.
The recruitment drive, code named Masikhulumisane/Ngatitaudzane/Let's Talk, will also afford the party the opportunity to restructure and prepare for its elective congress in December this year.
