The Zimbabwe Environmental Law Association (ZELA), Zimbabwe Council of Churches(ZCC) and Zimbabwe Coalition on Debt and Development(ZIMCODD) have organised the 2015 edition of the Zimbabwe Alternative Mining Indaba (ZAMI).
In an email the organmisations said Zimbabwe Alternative Mining Indaba is a platform for community members, government, policy makers, civil society and mining companies to dialogue on mining related issues that are relevant to the national context.
"The ZAMI presents an open platform for an all stakeholder dialogue on the socio-economic opportunities and challenges presented by the mining sector in Zimbabwe," reads the email.
"The theme for this year's ZAMI is "Creating shared value in the mining sector through engagement with people, business and government". The 2015 Indaba is being held with a view to create dialogue, engagement and shared commitment towards reform in the mining sector so as to ensure positive and inclusive development outcomes."
They said the topics that will be covered include; business and human rights; local enterprise development; artisanal and small scale mining, the experiences of Community Share Ownership Trust Schemes and environmental management issues among others
"The meeting will be attended by community members from mineral resource rich areas, mining companies, parliament, government departments, traditional chiefs, Rural District Council (RDC) Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) & media," the email reads.
"A draft programme and concept note is attached along with this invitation. The meeting will be held at the Holiday Inn Hotel in Bulawayo from 23-24 September 2015. Due to limited funding, we are unable to cater for your costs except the conference lunches."
