A 50- YEAR-OLD sugar mama yesterday appeared at the Western Commonage Magistrate's Court for assaulting her much younger boyfriend's wife, leaving her with a swollen eye.
Gracious Nkomo told the court that she hit Siqinisekile Mpofu, 26, after she (Mpofu) had insulted her over the phone for having an affair with her 37-year-old husband, whose name was not mentioned in court.
Western Commonage Magistrate Themba Chimiso heard how residents gathered to watch as Nkomo pummelled Mpofu at Mpopoma suburb. He found Nkomo guilty of assault and fined her $100. Nkomo a mother of two, declared her undying love for Mpofu's husband in court.
"I love my boyfriend.
"I beat up my boyfriend's wife because she insulted me on the phone over my love affair with her husband," she said.
Prosecuting Michelle Chiboiwa said that on September 15 along Nketa drive in Mpopoma suburb, Nkomo approached Mpofu and demanded to know why she had insulted her over the phone.
Mpofu allegedly replied in a manner that Nkomo found offensive.
Chiboiwa said in the ensuing fight, Mpofu sustained a swollen eye.
"She reported the matter to the police and was referred to Mpilo hospital," said the prosecutor.
Mpofu showed up in court with a black eye but did not take to the witness stand.
The prosecution produced a medical report which confirmed that Mpofu was assaulted and sustained injuries, a red eye and swelling on the left side of her face.
In mitigation, Nkomo said she was a single mother of two and was employed at a local restaurant.
