A thieving Lupane villager - Bona Tshuma aged 30 broke into his South Africa based neighbour's house and stole property worth $6000 and left a dead frog on the bed.
Tshuma had spotted his neighbour, Never Ncube departing for South Africa and hatched a plan to steal.
On July, 6 this year around 10pm, Tshuma went to Ncube's house and found it locked and then broke a window to gain entry.
She stole a fridge, solar panel, queen bed, gas stove stamp mill machine and $2000 in cash.
He then left a dead frog in the house.
In court he said a sangoma gave him the frog so that he would not be caught.
"He told me that if I leave it on the bed no one would ever think it is me who stole" he told magistrate Ndumo Masuku.
He said the frog cost him $150.
"I had a firm belief that I would not be caught. The sangoma has helped a lot of people in the community. Some also use his charms and have never been caught".
Tshuma was sentenced to 24 months in jail of which six months were suspended for five years.
