A BULAWAYO woman teamed up with her mother in-law to assault her husband's heavily pregnant girlfriend, a court heard. Audrey Sibanda, 29, and her mother in-law Pamela Nyabadza, 50, allegedly stomped on Nomqhele Moyo's stomach, after accusing her of having an affair with Sibanda's husband.
Sibanda told the court that she beat up Moyo, who is her neighbour, because her husband is having an affair with her. "I beat her up because I want her to leave my husband alone. I've a one-year-old son with him," she said while trying to hush her baby who was wailing.
Nyabadza pleaded with Magistrate Sibongile Msipa – Marondedze to be lenient, saying she only struck Moyo once with a stick on her back. Msipa Marondedze convicted the two women of assault.
She sentenced each of them to a wholly suspended three months in prison on condition the pair does not commit a similar offence in the next five years. Prosecuting, Mufaro Mageza said on September 23, in Pumula South, Sibanda approached Moyo and asked her about her relationship with her husband.
The court heard that Sibanda started to assault Moyo on the head with a stick several times and went on to bite her on the right side of her chest.
"Nyabadza assaulted Moyo twice on the back with a stick causing her to fall down. Sibanda stomped on her stomach several times. Moyo sustained bruises on her chest and is experiencing pains in her stomach," said Mageza.
