Bulawayo City council is auctioning off cattle, donkeys and pigs next week as they say they have been left unclaimed for far too long
Acting town clerk, Sikhangele Zhou said a total of seven beasts, 11 pigs, four goats, 3 donkeys, and one sheep will go under the hammer at Gum Plantation on October 15.
"Notice is hereby given in terms of Section 11 of Protection of Lands and Natural Resources by-laws 1984 as amended that the following livestock will be sold by public auction at the holding Pen, Gum Plantation on 15.10.2015," said Zhou in a notice.
Over the past months, stray animals have been a cause for concern along the country's major highways and have been viewed as the major cause of accidents.
Even in urban centres, motorists are now forced to drive with extreme caution as there are a lot of stray animals that are used for draught power by small-scale farmers in various suburbs and peri-urban set ups.
This has led to an increase in stray animals around the city.
