Harare Residents Trust has accused Local Government minister Saviour Kasukuwere for ignoring court order granting the reinstatement of the Gweru councillor who include the mayor Hamutendi Kombayi whom he fired recently for misconduct.
"The Ministry of Local Government Public Works and National Housing chose to ignore the court directive to reinstate 10 Gweru Councillors and Mayor Hamutendi Kombayi," said the Trust.
"The Minister is using the Urban Councils Act as a basis for his power yet the Constitution which is the Supreme Law of the Land takes such powers from him."
The Trust said the Constitution clearly states that there should be an independent tribunal that should have the power to dismiss mayors, council chairpersons and Councillors.
"Any act or action inconsistent with the Constitution is invalid," said the trust.
