Decentralising the Harare International Carnival concept is part of the government's long term plans for the glamorous tourism event which is now in its third year since inception.
This was revealed by Deputy Minister of Tourism and Hospitality Industry, Honourable Annastacia Ndlovu.
Responding to questions from journalists at a press briefing organised by the Zimbabwe Tourism Authority (ZTA) on Wednesday at Rainbow Towers, Honourable Ndlovu said government's vision is to see each province staging its own unique carnival in its own separate month of the year.
The Harare International Carnival would then be conducted last as the premier event that will conclude all carnival proceedings.
"The plan that we have as a ministry is, in the future as we move forward, we have provincial carnivals such that, for example, in each month of the year we have a carnival in Manicaland, in Masvingo, in Matebeleland North, in Bulawayo and then we have the Harare International Carnival," she said.
"So, that's the vision that the ministry has so that the carnival devolves to the rest of the country so that it is not just a preserve of those in Harare.
"Then, it really becomes something that can encourage people to be more united in their own provinces."
Honourable Ndlovu also announced that Chitungwiza and Masvingo are some of the communities that have presented requests for their own separate carnivals. The two areas are already understood to be at advanced stages with their own proposals.
"We also gather that there is a lot of interest in Chitungwiza. So, in future we may need to have a separate carnival in Chitungwiza which also speaks to the needs of people who are there," said Honourable Ndlovu.
"I am quite aware that Masvingo Province is already working on having such. In Masvingo, it will be designed around their cultural and intellectual aspirations," she added.
This year's Harare International Carnival will run under the theme "Yesterday, today and tomorrow."
The major highlight of the event will be the street party that will be held on Saturday, 10 October.
Twenty four countries and twenty five local cultural groups have confirmed their participation at the event.
Vice President Emmerson Mnangagwa will stand in for President Robert Mugabe who was expected to be the reviewing officer at this year's street party.
