Commuter omnibus operators on Thursday reported hiked prices from $1 to $3 as the transport shortage hit Harare following the road blocks mounted by the Vehicle Inspection Department leading most of the vehicles parking.

The remaining few that qualified to operate had to take advantage of the situation to over charge desperate travellers.

Harare Residents Trust said residents from many high density areas are facing transport problems as the Vehicle Inspection Department (VID) is raiding public transport providers.

Commuter Omnibuses are are hiking their fares from $1 to as much as $3 per trip. Most residents today spent the day at Mbare Musika as they could not afford to go back to their places of residence.
