Owners of Eden Night Club faced resistance from Bulawayo residents to establish a night club at the Matabeleland Turf Club situated at Ascot Race Course in Bulawayo.
The residents said the joint is of very 'bad influence'.
The club is popular among young revellers and has hosted several international musical acts.
Eden Night Club made an application with Bulawayo City Council on 4 April 2015.
According to a council report, one objection accompanied by a signed petition had been received.
The objection seen by Bulawayo24.com reads :
"We object to the establishment of a nightclub on shop A & B Ascot Race Course (Old Esigodini Road) Pony club investments, We have huge problems with noise pollution emanating from the bar and nightclub that are already there.
"The night club only opens twice weekly but the silver ring bar opens every day and night, forcing us to listen to drunken revelry and excessively loud music all the time. We have made regular complaints to the police, Zimbabwe Music Rights, Bulawayo City Council, but they continue with their noise pollution.
"PLEASE DO NOT ALLOW THIS PROBLEM TO GET WORSE WITH ANOTHER NIGHT CLUB THERE" reads part of the petition.
It continued "With three schools nearby, and so close to residential areas, it is a very bad influence,".
In response, the club owners said "We were made aware of this objection which was the initiative of Chief Warden Johnston of suburbs neighbourhood watch. We approached Mr Johnston to explain what exactly was going on at the race course.
"It became apparent Mr Johnston was concerned mainly with the other bar Silver Ring located there, who plays their music in an open area which causes noise pollution in suburbs.
"Unfortunately he had already lodged the objection, but the attached letter confirms he is now satisfied with our initiative of the establishment of a nightclub".
Council official granted the application.
"That development permit to establish a night club on the Matabeleland Turf Club (Ascot Race Course Shop A & B) be granted to Eden Night Club subject to full compliance with the requirements of the Director of Engineering Services, Director of Health Services, Director of Housing and Community Services and any other municipal by-law requirements".
