A Foundation College student who was arrested with others for the murder of a Nkulumane man through hitting him with a brick has appeared in court charged with murder.
Zangelo Thebe (20) who was arrested together with Tsepo Phosa (19), Donald Musona (21) and Mthulisi Sibanda (21) was the only one to be arraigned before the court after indications he was the one who allegedly practically hit and killed Vengai Clayton Muza (27) fracturing his skull in the process.
Thebe applied for bail before Bulawayo magistrate Tinashe Tashaya indicating that he was not a flight risk and would reside at Queens Park East until the case is finalised.
Thebe is a student who is set to write his Advance Level examinations in two weeks' time and keeping him in custody will affect him.
He is out of custody on $100 bail with usual bail conditions attached.
The court heard that Thebe struck Muza with a brick while in the company of Phosa, Musona, and Sibanda on Sunday. Muza died on the spot while his friend Brannon Moyo (29) was left unconscious following the brutal attack allegedly by the high school boys.
One of the suspects dropped his cellphone at the scene where the deceased's (Muza) body was. Police used his cellphone to track and arrest them.
The youths had went partying and got drunk and a fight broke out between Muza, his friend Moyo and the pupils over passage through a bridge in the neighbourhood.
The pupils were coming from an opposite while Muza and his friend were going the opposite direction and they met over a bridge where a misunderstanding ensued over the alleged blocking of a footbridge by one group.
Muza allegedly instigated the fight leading to his death.
