THE Minister of Higher and Tertiary Education, Science and Technology Development, Professor Jonathan Moyo who is mourning the death of her daughter, Zanele  initially 'resisted' to be called out of a meeting to be told the tragic news.

Moyo heard the news while addressing National University of Science and Technology (Nust) academic and non-academic staff on Saturday.

Sources who attended the meeting said Moyo's aides struggled to get the minister's attention as he was mid-stream with his address.

One aide who received the information stormed the hall and communicated with Permanent Secretary  Machivenyika Mapuranga, through 'eye-contact'

"He (Mapuranga) went outside and spoke with the aide who told him the sad news. They took about four minutes to stop Moyo and have him outside the venue.

"We all sensed that something was extremely wrong. We waited for close to seven minutes when Moyo and others returned. He looked so distraught."

"Suddenly we were told to observe a minute of silence and then we were told the sad news. Moyo was the quickly whisked away," said the source.

Zanele's body is expected to be repatriated back to Zimbabwe tomorrow or Wednesday when police are expected to have finalised their investigations and immigration formalities are completed. Mourners are gathered at No 7 Rosary Close, Borrowdale in Harare.
