A 28-year-old man from Bulawayo's Nkulumane suburb allegedly committed suicide by hanging himself in his bedroom. David Sithole is said to have taken his own life on Saturday evening after his family thought he had retired to bed.
The reason why he killed himself is yet to be established. A source yesterday said that Sithole's mother discovered her son's body dangling from trusses on the roof.
"He left his mother watching television and retired to bed. His mother found his body hanging as she prepared to go to sleep," said the source. "He had been sent to the shops and when he came back he went straight to his room leaving others watching television. It's still unknown why he took his life," said the source. The Chronicle visited the family yesterday and Sithole's brother declined to give an interview, saying the family was in mourning.
"I can't say anything. I'm pained by his death. I'm still mourning," he said. Family members said they were shocked by Sithole's death as he did not show signs of being troubled. The family members gave the news crew Daniel Sithole's number and said he was the family's spokesperson.
However, Daniel refused to comment saying he does not want the issue to be published. "Please don't publish this because if you do we'll be forced to take legal action," he said. Bulawayo police spokesperson Inspector Precious Simango said investigations into the death were underway. "Police are investigating a sudden death case due to hanging," said Insp Simango.
She urged residents to seek counselling instead of resorting to taking their lives. "Members of the public must seek counselling services from community elders, religious leaders, family, and friends or approach the police when they're facing difficulties," Insp Simango said.
