TWO men from Cowdray Park and Luveve allegedly stole a police officer's identity card and used it to rob unsuspecting residents.

William Manda (36) of Cowdray Park and Tichaona Torinda (34) of Luveve were not asked to plead to the charge when they appeared before Bulawayo magistrate Tinashe Tashaya.

They were remanded in custody to October 28 for trial.

The court heard that on July 15 2015 at 9am Ethel Ncube of Fort Rixon was walking along the Waverly Road in the company of Emmaculate Sibindi going to Monarch Shop in Bulawayo. Manda who was moving in front of them picked a bunch of Zimbabwean dollars wrapped in $1.

He tried to convince the two to share with him the picked money but they refused.

Manda continued top pester them in the sharing deal and that is when his other colleague not named who is still at large arrived and said he saw them pick the money.

Tarinda arrived at the scene and produced the stolen police identity card before introducing himself as a police officer.

The police identity card belonged to one constable Dube. Tarinda accused Ncube and Sibindi of picking the money and demanded the money back. That is when Manda produced the bunch of Zimbabwean notes before claiming that the other money was with the two women.

Manda and Torinda ganged up and searched the two women and took $350 from Ncube and $300 from Sibindi. On September 13 2015 the two also using the same modus operandi met Knowledge Ndlovu of Lupane at Amakhosi Bus Stop before robbing him of his $200.

The total robbed from the three residents is $850 and it was not recovered.

On October 7 the two were positively identified by the victims of the robbery leading to their arrest.

On their arrest the police searched Torinda and recovered the police identity card which he had hidden in his private parts while they also recovered the Zimbabwean dollars from Manda.
