Haulage truck rams into police station

A HAULAGE truck Tuesday rammed into a vehicle before destroying the Entumbane Police camp fence when it 'suddenly' went into motion while being fixed by a team of mechanics.
The incident occurred in the evening and witnesses say the damage could have been worse if the truck had gained considerable momentum.
Ironically, the Toyota Hilux which was rammed into belonged to the very owner of the haulage truck.
Witnesses, say the truck had a mechanical fault and was being attended to by mechanics who were in the company of its owner.
"Apparently the mechanic had left the gear on while fixing it then all of a sudden the truck began moving, prompting mechanics and the driver to elude the truck in fear of being run over," said a witness, Goerge Dube.
He said the truck moved towards the police camp and hit the Toyota damaging its bonnet.
"The truck then went on towards the camp where it hit the fence and dragged it inwards before it stopped. Had the momentum been greater it was going right ahead to ram into the charge office," said Dube.
Another witness, Melody Ncube said it was sheer luck that damage by the mishap was minimal.
" As the truck was moving towards the police station fence it almost collided with a car that was coming towards it but the driver managed to swerve and avoid it.
"The driver of the vehicle was shocked by that the vehicle was moving on its own," said Ncube.
The owner of the truck refused to give any comment.
Efforts to get a comment from the police officer in charge of the station was unfruitful as he was held up in meetings.
