Bulawayo City Council plan to pray for the rains during its 72nd annual civic service on Sunday.
Bulawayo was declared a city in 1943 following the arrival of the first train from South Africa.
"His Worship, the Mayor Councillor M.K Moyo will host a service to celebrate the declaration of Bulawayo as City at the Large City Hall at 10:00 am on Sunday 1st November 2015.
"Members of the public are kindly invited to attend the ceremony. The service will also pray for the following: rains, leadership in Zimbabwe, Children and youth, God fearing residents and Development and progress," said acting town clerk, Sikhangele Zhou in a notice today.
The celebrations come at a time the city, which used to be the country's industrial hub, has been hard hit by de-industrialisation after most of its firms either closed shop due to economic meltdown or relocated to other cities.
