Big blow for Mnangagwa

Vice President Emmerson Mnangagwa's camp suffered a setback at the weekend after G40 allies won at least three quarters of the contested posts in Harare, a development that one source described as a bad omen for the VPs bid to succeed President Mugabe.
Harare province political commissar Shadreck Mashayamombe confirmed the elections took place but claimed that those who deserved to win were elected resoundingly.
However sources say the G40 won over 250 districts out of 300 in Harare.
Meanwhile, Zanu-PF's women's league in Mashonaland West on Saturday openly moved to demand the mooted return of a women's quota system in the party's constitution in a move the paper says is a clear statement they want Grace Mugabe to take over from Mnangagwa as vice president.
The decision was unanimously deliberated at a provincial meeting in Chinhoyi. Under the arrangement, the women – with the assistance of G40- will push for the party to revert to its old constitution at next month's Vic Falls conference.
It was also recommended that youth leader Vengai Musengi be relieved of his duties on allegations that he campaigning for VP Mnangagwa.
Another blow to Mnangagwa was the endorsement of President Mugabe as the 2018 presidential candidate by the Harare Youth provincial executive which however refused to name the VP as the running mate. The paper says all provinces except Masvingo and Midlands are pushing for Grace to be VP.
