A JOHANE Masowe prophet has been arraigned for allegedly raping a 15-year-old girl.

Energy Marangarire, 33, of Pumula North suburb in Bulawayo, allegedly forced himself on the school-going teenager and threatened her with death if she screamed.

Marangarire appeared before Western Commonage magistrate Themba Chimiso facing a rape charge.

He was not asked to plead and was remanded in custody to November 30.

Prosecuting, Michell Chiboiwa told the court that sometime in July at around 12PM, the schoolgirl went to a friend's house in Pumula North where Marangarire resides.

On arrival, the pupil and her friend sat in Marangarire's room with him.

"The friend later left the room leaving Marangarire and the complainant together in his room.

"Whilst the friend was outside the house, Marangarire pulled the complainant onto the bed. The complainant screamed but Marangarire threatened the complainant with death if she continued screaming," said Chiboiwa.

"Marangarire lifted the complainant's skirt and forcibly removed her panties. He then unzipped his trousers and had sex with the complainant once without using protection and without her consent."

Chiboiwa said the prophet's victim revealed the matter to her mother on November 14 and she was referred to hospital for an examination after a police report had been filed.
