ZPP shocked over murder of Zanu PF members

Zimbabwe Peace Project (ZPP) is shocked and stunned by the murder of two ZANU-PF members, Lloyd Jamawo and Marko Masenda by accused fellow party member, Proud Mupambwa, in Chitungwiza last Saturday in an incident which was followed, two days later, by an alleged suicide of Mupambwa in police custody.
No political outcome is worth the loss of lives and blood should not be spilled over positions and factional ruptures.
ZPP notes with concern the acrimony and resulting violence that has been widely shored up to the surface by the ruling party's current restructuring exercise across the country.
Fist fights, intimidation and other forms of harassment have characterised the restructuring exercise which has seen many districts, because of insurmountable conflicts, either postpone or discontinue elections; or have contested poll results. While the volatile factional ructions have been widespread across the country, ZPP notes Mashonaland West, Mashonaland Central and now Chitungwiza, Harare as being the most volatile.
The fact that the intra-party violence has now resulted in murders is an alarming height which should not be tolerated at any cost.
As ZPP we are concerned by the degree of rage, intensity of action as well as the amount of violence displayed by the bloodletting murders and other severe forms of violence witnessed in recent weeks.
As such ZPP strongly calls upon ZANU-PF to rein in its membership and constructively deal with the protracted and internecine factional warring forthwith to prevent additional or further violence and/or murders.
Yet again, ZPP calls for the sanctioning of perpetrators of political violence, intimidation and other forms of harassment at party level and by relevant law enforcement agents across the board, without fear or favour.
Violent-free politics is possible and must begin at individual level; be fostered and buttressed at party level; and be enforced by law enforcement agents across the nation.
