Bulawayo City Council (BCC) will receive four million rands from the government of South Africa to improve the city's water and waste management operations.
BCC applied to the South African government's department of Trade and Investment and the department approved the loan facility.
BCC's application for a R4 million grant from the South Africa government for the city's water and waste water plan has been approved. South Africa's Department of Trade and Investment (DTI) approved the grant last week.
The latest council report said communication advising of the approval had been sent together with the standard DTI agreement and a letter from the partnering firm, Stemele Bosch Africa giving a breakdown of how the funding should be structured.
The master plan involves the mapping of the infrastructure relating to water and waste water.
The statement indicated that the city of Bulawayo was growing and there was need for a master plan showing how pipes were laid out within the city in order to facilitate repair work.
Last year, the Australian government offered $US4,6 million to the BCC for a two – year project to repair water and sewer systems.
Bulawayo Mayor, Councillor Thaba Moyo has in the past said the rehabilitation of the collapsing infrastructure at the water treatment plant would cost over $US1 million.
