Accused, families weep in court

TWO Bulawayo men facing a charge of attempted murder broke into tears and their family members joined in after they were denied bail at the Western Commonage courts.
Nhlanhla Dube, 39, wept as he pleaded with magistrate Abednico Ndebele to grant him bail
Dube and Aron Sibanda, 21, were part of a mob that allegedly assaulted a soldier in Lobengula West suburb when they found him fondling a minor.
The soldier is in the Intensive Care Unit at Parirenyatwa Hospital in Harare.
"I beg you your worship to grant me bail. I did not hit anyone, my crime was to try and break up the fight that was going on. I'm a family man and Tm innocent, ft is tough in prison," said Dube with tears streaming down his cheeks.
His son walked out of court crying while the rest of the family members looked at the magistrate with tears in their eyes.
Dube's accomplice, Sibanda, stood motionless in the dock with tears in his eyes.
Prosecuting, Mufaro Mageza told the court that on November 13, Dube and Ndebele teamed up with their neighbours and assaulted Liberty Rutsate, 25.
Rutsate had allegedly indecendy assaulted a child in their neighbourhood by fondling her breasts and buttocks.
Mageza said Dube slapped the soldier while Sibanda used a stone to hit Rutsate in the free-for-all assault.
Magistrate Ndebele advised the relatives to apply for bail at the Bulawayo Tredgold Magistrates court or to get a lawyer to apply for bail at the High court
