Minister of Local Government, Public Works and national Housing Saviour Kasukuwere has expressed suddenness over the death of 16 people in an accident near Nyamuwunga shopping centre in Mudzi last week.
In a statement Kasukuwere said on behalf of the nation, the ministry of Local Government, Public Works and national Housing he would like to convene the nation's deep felt condolences to the bereaved families and expressed deepest sympathy for the untimely death of the 16 people who died in a head on collision between a Mazda Bongo vehicle and a commuter omnibus.
"It is disturbing to note that this accident comes hardly 10 months after the ZUPCO Pioneer Bus disaster along the same road in which more than 25 people lost their lives," Kasukuwere said.
"The ministry would like to urge drivers to exercise extreme caution on the roads so that we avoid unnecessary loss of life through road accidents. I have invoked the Civil Protection Act Chapter 32 (c) in order to render limited assistance to the bereaved families. The funeral assistance is pegged at $200 per deceased."
