Three men from Chakari are reported to have died in a gold mine shaft while scrambling for gold.

According to media reports the men who are yet to be identified are said to have been processing a sands dump commonly referred to as motoro.

"They then found a rich place where they would extract the sand and process using an old method called James' Table," said the source.

"However on the fateful day, they took the risk too far and dug a shaft which was at least 8 meters long under the sands. The shaft then collapsed trapping the three. While we could not establish the names of the deceased, we are reliably informed that one of them is from Rimuka in Pemba street."
