Harare City Council has reportedly destroyed 13 houses which were built close to the illegal houses constructed at a school site leaving the owners without shelter.
Harare Residents Trust reported that in Budiriro 5 there is a case of a resident who joined a cooperative in 2005 and the stands were allocated in 2009.
"The cooperative had all the paper work but the chairperson of the cooperative allocated other stands on a school site. So there were misunderstandings between the executive committee and the members of the cooperative and the issue ended up in the hands of the police," said the trust. "This resulted in the houses built on the school site being demolished as well as other 13 houses built near those illegal houses were demolished by the council without informing the owners. To date the victim has built a two roomed cabin house where he is living with his family and has not received any compensation."
