Harare Residents Trust has indicated that there has been an increase in the number of vendors in Harare despite the recent running battles between the traders and the municipality police a development which shows that there was serious failure by the policy makers to address the problem faced by the country
The trust said the presence of more vendors in the central business district is clear testimony of the failure in policy formulation and strategic thinking in the Harare City Council.
"City managers, drunk with ratepayers money think in their offices and implement without the input of the citizens and expect success," said the trust. "Their failure was always evident, from the start, and the evidence of their failed policies and strategies is there for all to see. Vendors are everywhere. They have nowhere to go. The Government has to revive industries and businesses."
The trust said vendors cannot be punished for the sins of the Government.
"The citizens want the Government to create the right environment for job creation and revival of industries and remove all the unnecessary restrictions that hinder investment," said the trust. "Only fools resort to force to sort out problems. The economy and corruption are the twin evils that have to be dealt with by the Harare City Council and the Government of Zimbabwe."
