Harare Council is opposing residents over pre-paid water meters

Harare Residents Trust has said it was sad that the Harare City Council was continuing to go against the residents wishes by pushing on with the issue of installation of prepaid water meters which residents rejected long ago.
"The City of Harare and its officials assume that by repeating what residents reject they will be accepted," said the trust. "Prepaid water meters are only acceptable to the council officials and the councillors who have been receiving huge amounts of money in allowances after attending workshops and seminars on prepaid water meters."
The trust said as the policymakers, the Councillors in Harare have demonstrated that they have no idea what they have to do when in council chambers.
"The majority of them, save for about 15 councillors, are lost and have no business representing the residents of Harare. The HRT, and fellow residents' associations, have rejected the prepaid water meters, which are an elitist tool to enrich the rich and weaken the poor masses. Reject prepaid water meters," said the trust.
