Speaker of Parliament Lovemore Moyo said the Matabeleland region lacked visionary leaders who have love for the people.
He also has called on other tribes to respect Ndebele people.
Moyo said the problems bedeviling Matabeleland were as a result of failure by other tribes to accord Ndebele people the respect they
deserve.
"As a way forward there should be a change of mindset where people from other regions should start treating Ndebeles as a tribe that should be respected," he said.
He could however not be drawn into naming the tribe (s) that were disrespecting Ndebele people. Moyo said there was a conspirancy to undermine the Ndebele tribe.
"The current mindset is a generation of oppressed people. We need to change that. As people of Matabeleland we should ask ourselves why all political parties start in this region. This is because there is an agreed idea that Ndebeles should be kept divided and ruled forever," he said.
"As leaders in the region we are not practical and we end up being patronised. We should be leaders on our own accord than to be patronised and end up having no value." Moyo claimed that the death of the late Vice President Joshua Nkomo left a power vacuum.
"We relaxed and put all our leadership trust in one leader, the late Dr Joshua Nkomo and forgot that one day he would depart. We missed a point that after him there would be a crisis and did not take time to groom other leaders thereby creating a leadership vacuum we are facing today," he said.
