Harare Residents Trust condemns council's demand for excessive amounts over un paid debts.

The trust said the City of Harare has no justification to demand excessive amounts of money for unpaid debts because they are not investing the money in the improvement of essential services, with residents mostly taking up initiatives to patch roads, clear uncollected garbage and repair broken boreholes where water supplies are erratic or non- existent.
"The HRT urges residents to only pay a minimum of US$10 for services rendered by the City of Harare, until such a time that the council is able to provide an efficient and effective service, where the earnings of top managers are consistent with the incomes of the ratepayers who struggle to pay their rates to council," said the trust. "For now the HRT will defend the quarter and half payment of bills by residents. Why should residents fund the extravagant lifestyles of senior council officials in Grades 1- 4?"
