Harare Residents call for suspension of Council Engineer

Harare Residents Trust has reported that there has been increasing calls for the Harare City Council to suspend the City Council Engineer Christopher Zvobgo over illegal connections of water supplies to various housing cooperatives that occupied illegal land designated for other land uses.

"There has been a call to suspend Harare City Council Engineer Christopher Zvobgo over the illegal connections of water supplies to various housing cooperatives that occupied illegal land designated for other land uses," said the trust. "The HRT has always employed council to look into these issues. These cooperatives could not have connected themselves or their members to access main water pipes without the assistance of Council officials."

The trust said what these officials have been doing is legitimizing bogus land barons, this fools some residents into thinking that if Council has a hand in the setting up of water supply infrastructure in an area, it means the land is legitimately owned by the cooperative.
